PEOPLE with Alzheimer's disease in Oxfordshire are being called on to take part in a ground-breaking government-funded trial.

The trial, which is being led in the Thames Valley by Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, will investigate if a drug normally used to treat high blood pressure can also slow down the progression of Alzheimer's.

Recruitment has been extended until the end of February 2018, with 140 people already taking part and a further 90 needed by researchers to sign up.

Participants will take either the study drug, losartan, or a placebo once a day for 12 months.

They will be assessed through MRI scans, memory tests and questions on day-to-day quality of life.

Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia, affects almost half a million people in the UK.
