A taxi firm boss from Grove must pay out £2,000 after being convicted of two licence offences, which magistrates said had "seriously compromised " public safety.

Keith Ince, 62, owner of Keith's Cabs and a partner in Sue's Taxis, pleaded guilty at Didcot Magistrates' Court to employing his son Lewis Ince to drive a Hackney carriage - even though he did not have a licence. He was fined £400.

Mr Ince, of Manor Gardens, Grove, also pleaded guilty to using a car as a private hire vehicle without having a proper licence - for which he was fined £600. He was also ordered to pay £1,000 costs.

As a result of the convictions, the Vale of White Horse District Council will review his Hackney carriage licence.

Lewis Ince, also of Manor Gardens, was fined £300 for driving a licensed cab without the necessary licence. He was also ordered to pay £500 costs.

The court heard that during checks in Wantage, in March, licensing officers found Lewis Ince driving a Sue's Taxis vehicle. He could not produce his licence badge and told officers his father had it.

The court also heard about a woman's journey in a taxi booked through Keith's Cabs last December.

The vehicle had no meter or taxi light on its roof and was stopped in the bus lane in Botley Road, Oxford, by police. The council found that the car was not licensed to be used as a taxi or for private hire.
