BBC Radio Oxford presenter Howard Bentham is to leave the station’s breakfast show after a final appearance tomorrow morning.

Mr Bentham took over from Phil Gayle as host of the show two years ago.

On Monday’s programme he told listeners that despite his efforts to make sure the show was the best it could be it was ‘not enough’.

He said: "I have spent two years presenting this show and trying to make it the very best that it can be.

“It appears that is not enough, in the view of our temporary managing editor at least.”

Mr Bentham then added that he had too much respect for his listeners to sit behind the microphone and air any ‘dirty laundry’.

He will be replaced from Monday by fellow Radio Oxford presenter David Prever, who will move to the show from his current 4pm slot.

From Monday, March 13, Mr Bentham will host a new ‘hometime’ show from 4pm.

A BBC spokesperson said: "We are delighted with our new line-up and we think our audiences will love listening to David Prever in the mornings.

"David is a brilliant broadcaster and his show will be a must-listen for everyone who lives and works in the county."

Speaking after the shake-up was unveiled at the end of January BBC Radio Oxford editor Tim Boswell said: "I’m thrilled that David will be presenting the new BBC Radio Oxford breakfast show.

"It’ll be a programme packed full of personality and passion for Oxfordshire.

"David is a brilliant broadcaster and his show will be a must-listen for everyone who lives and works here.

"I’d like to thank Howard for his hard work on the breakfast show over the past two years and I’m delighted he’ll remain part of the BBC Radio Oxford line-up."
