Hannah Jones, a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: "A horse was trapped and distressed while being transported in a horse transporter.
"The road had to be closed for public safety to prevent any collisions in the event the horse became further distressed and escaped from the vehicle.
"The horse has minor injuries but is OK."
Traffic is building on A34 Southbound. Picture: Google Maps.
Traffic is also slow after two lanes were closed due to a broken down vehicle on the A34 Northbound between A4183 Abingdon North and the Southern By-Pass Road.
