POLICE persuded a man to step to safety after he 'threatened to jump' from an Oxford bridge.
Officers were called to a fear for welfare incident at 12.08pm and shut part of Eastern Bypass road to talk him down.
Social media reports suggested he was considering jumping onto the road near Green Road roundabout.

One witness said it was a 'very young man standing on the outside of the railings'.
@lebeccar @HAmateurs @TheOxfordMail @holyportfc It was a very young man standing on the outside of the railings. I was one of the last to walk through before road was closed. Hope he is OK

Inspector Paul Killingley of Thames Valley Police said: "There was a man on the bridge and a fear for his welfare. Officers closed the road while we negotiated with him and he is now safe and in our care.”
Eastern Bypass was closed in both directions but has since reopened.
