PEOPLE across Oxfordshire are unwrapping presents today - but some parents got the greatest gift of all.

At least eight babies have been born at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford today, including little Poppie Walls at 3.43am.

Headington mum Lisa Johnson was in labour for 27 hours but said afterwards it was 'best Christmas present ever' for her and proud dad Paul Walls, pictured above.

The 33-year-old, who works in insurance, added: "She was late so it was a nice surprise.

"Poppie weighs 10lb 11oz and is super cute. She also met her older brother, Samuel, and he loves her."

Meanwhile, Marina Martinez Marquez, from Cowley, also had baby Nora Acedal Martinez at 5.57am - at work.

The midwife normally works at the JR herself but this time she was the patient, accompanied by partner David Acedal. She was in labour for about 20 hours.

Ms Marquez, 29, said: "I haven't slept in nearly two days so I'm knackered, but Nora is doing really well and is sleeping beautifully and all the family are here.

"Having a baby on Christmas is really nice - I don't know anyone else who has done that. Because I'm a midwife here, knowing everyone made the experience a bit easier."

Nora weighs 5lb 15oz, her mum said.
