An inquest has been opened today into the death of a pensioner who died in the River Ock in Abingdon.
Brian Davies, 74, of Caldecott Road, who was not married, was found in the river on December 6, Oxford Coroner’s Court was told.
The cause of death was drowning and the inquest was adjourned until April 27.
Firefighters were called to the riverside early on the morning of December 6 to rescue Mr Davies' body.
Thames Valley Police said after the incident his death was being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.
Floral tributes were left at the scene including one which said 'rest peacefully dear sweet gentleman'.
