STAFF played Santa for children who might otherwise have missed out this Christmas.

Law firm Blake Morgan rallied more than a dozen businesses to donate 421 presents to Oxfordshire Social Services and Oxford charity Children Heard and Seen, which helps youngsters whose parents are in prison.

Blake Morgan solicitor Catherine Melis said: "It's a simple idea that makes a big difference to some of the young people who need it most.

"Last year those who took part sent a total of 116 presents to children who may otherwise not have much to celebrate at Christmas."

She welcomed the overwhelming response to this year's appeal, adding: "It simply wouldn't be possible without the support of businesses and their staff. I can't thank them enough. Many people donate – estate agents, investment bankers and people from all walks of life.

"Children Heard and Seen were a new addition this year. I believe they had some funding cuts and they approached us; we were happy to help."

Those taking part were given gift tags for children nominated by social workers showing their first names, ages and gift ideas.

Presents were handed over to the charities on Thursday at the firm's offices in Botley's Seacourt Tower.
