POLICE are seeking thieves who knocked an elderly man to the ground and fractured his pelvis after record shop theft.

Two men stole a CD from Rapture record shop in The Woolgate Centre shortly after 1pm last Wednesday (December 7).

As they fled the scene they knocked down a 90-year-old man who fell to the floor and fractured his pelvis. The men then ran off in the direction of the Waitrose car park.

Owner of the record store Gary Smith said: "It was an extremely rare and unfortunate incident.

"Two guys were in the shop - one of them stole a CD and left.

"When his friend was challenged he ran out of the store. Unbeknown initially to us he went on to knock a man over.

"This man is 90 and sustained injuries. It was very distressing for all concerned and our thoughts are with him and his family.

"He was well looked after by caring members of the public at the time but the perpetrator is probably unaware of the distress he has caused the family at Christmas."

The first offender is described as white, in his mid-20s, slim, with medium length hair. He was wearing blue jeans, a maroon coloured t-shirt and a blue fleece.

The second man is also described as white, in his early 20s, with a short and stocky build and dark medium length hair. He was wearing tracksuit bottoms.

Investigating officer, Det Con Laura Oakes of Force CID based at Abingdon, said: “This incident took place in a busy shopping area in Witney which was no doubt full of Christmas shoppers.

"We are appealing to anybody who witnessed what happened and would be willing to speak further to Thames Valley Police."
