THEY say the best gifts come in small packages but these giant bunnies could make the perfect fluffy addition to any family Christmas.

Mother and son Maggie and Fred, a pair of French lop cross rabbits, are looking for a forever home after spending nearly six months in a rescue centre.

The pair, the size of cats, were brought in to Bicester-based animal rescue Tiny Paws in June and are currently its longest serving residents.

Unfortunately because they are so big many are put off and Fred's white coat with striking pink eyes is also a turn-off for many.

Tiny Paws founder Carol Spencer said: "Mum Maggie first came to us with her five babies but since four have been rehomed and mum has stayed with the one baby Fred.

"It is because he is white with pink eyes and unfortunately many class these bunnies as something like the devil reincarnated.

"But they are both absolutely lovely, they love cuddles and love company.

"It would be lovely to rehome them both before Christmas.

"They really do deserve it, they are lovely bunnies."

The mother and son pair of fluffy, plump pets came into the rescue in the summer and since have been rehomed once but brought back into the rescue due to a change in circumstances for their new owner.

Ms Spencer explained these types of bunnies are always hard to rehome and often suffer from limited vision as their pink eyes are sensitive to sunlight.

She added: "It is such a shame because they are lovely, friendly bunnies with brilliant characters.

"For example when you muck them out and move around their stuff they will be straight in to move it all back to the way the want it.

"They are very happy at the rescue but it would be lovely to get them a home before Christmas after nearly six months here."

Tiny Paws is a charity rescue which is run by volunteers from its base in Springfield Road in Caversfield, near Bicester.

It takes in a number of animals such as hamsters, chinchillas and bunnies, both giant and regular sized and work with local vets to get them back to health upon arrival.
