A MOTHER and son were rescued after a fire broke out in the living room of their Headington home this morning.
Firefighters were called to Weyland Road at 8.54am and were met by flames and smoke coming from the ground floor of the property.
Wearing breathing apparatus, two firefighters entered the building and rescued the two people along with their pet dog.
The fire was put out using a high pressure hose reel which limited the fire damage to the living room.
Incident Commander Kevin Morgan said: “ Thanks to the swift actions by fire crews the mother and child were rescued and led to safety.
"They were checked by South Central Ambulance Service and were later assisted by British Red Cross Emergency Support volunteers.
"This is a good reminder to everyone to test your smoke alarms and to make sure you have an escape plan in case of a fire.”
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
