TEN men were arrested at the weekend as part of a crackdown on drink-related trouble and violence in the city centre.

A 23-year-old man was charged with affray while a 17-year-old and a 28-year-old were cautioned for public order and affray respectively.

Three men aged 17, 18, and 33 received fixed penalty notices for drunken trouble and 16-year-old and 25-year-old men were released on bail.

Two men aged 22 and 24 were arrested and released without charge.

The crackdown in the city centre is part of Operation Birria, which was launched last year to combat pay-day drinkers who get into drunken trouble on pay weekend.

The operation which sees more officers on the street is now used every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the city centre targeting drink-related trouble.
