It was 12th time lucky for Roger Cox, Abingdon's new mock mayor of Ock Street.
Mr Cox, above, knocked out the favourite and mayor for 11 years Stuart Jackson, romping home with a 20-vote majority.
The 58-year-old gardener from Wootton Road, Abingdon, polled 58 votes. Mr Jackson got 38 and in third place with 25 votes was regular contender Rod James.
It was another disappointing turnout of electors with only 122 ballot papers returned out of 850 distributed.
After the result was declared, Mr Cox was carried shoulder high on a decorated chair along Ock Street by members of the Abingdon Traditional Morris Dancers, organisers of the event.
