AN 11-year-old girl was attacked by a gang of teenagers as she walked through Witney.

At about 5.30pm yesterday an 11-year-old girl was walking home through The Leys when she was approached by a group of teenagers, five boys and one girl, all aged about 15 to 16, near the entrance to Witney Bowls Club in Station Lane.

Some of the boys grabbed the girl and held her, while the female teenager punched her in the face.

PC Nigel Lomas, investigating the incident, said: "The girl was left with a nasty injury to her eye and was very shocked by what happened.

"This was an unprovoked attack on a young girl and I would appeal to anyone who saw it or knows who is responsible, to come forward."
