DIDCOT racing driver Ian Pearson made it four wins out of four with victory in the Formula Renault BARC Championship Club Class at Oulton Park Island circuit.

The reigning Club Class champion won the fourth round of the series and finished tenth overall despite racing against several newer model cars.

Pearson, racing a 1998 Tatuus-built Formula Renault car, qualified fastest among Club Class competitors after biding his time on a drying track. He then spent the first half of the race challenging the 2004-specification cars of Mark Burdett Motorsport duo Pierre Renom and Denis Autier, which race in the FR2000 Class.

Moving up to 12th overall following a handful of early retirements, Pearson was four places ahead of Marcus Clutton, his closest rival in the Club Class category. He also set the fastest lap of the race, earning one bonus Championship point, with a time of 1min 27.197s (93.31mph average) at the 2.26-mile Cheshire circuit.

As the 16-lap race neared its conclusion, Pearson gained two further places as two more FR2000 Class cars retired in front of him. After a ten-lap battle with the FR2000 Class car of David Scott, who finished as Club Class runner-up to Pearson in 2005, Scott finally got the upper hand on the final lap to beat Pearson by just 0.3 secs.

However, the retirement of Autier on the final lap saw Pearson keep his tenth place, one of the best overall results of his six-year Formula Renault BARC career.

Pearson said: "I had a good race with the FR2000 Class cars in the beginning and was biding my time in case they made mistakes. To finish tenth overall is great for me and I think there is more to come from the car. It's a bit down on power and a little too heavy."

Rounds five and six take place at Silverstone National circuit on Sunday, July 22.
