PEOPLE in Carterton, Bampton and Burford are being urged to do their bit to help their local environment by taking part in Community Clear-Ups during June and July.

Following the recent success in Witney, the Carterton Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG), West Oxfordshire District Council and Thames Valley Police have joined forces again to organise three Community Clear-Ups between 10am and 1pm on:

  • Saturday, June 23- Town Hall, Carterton
  • Saturday, July 7 - Market Square, Bampton
  • Saturday, July 14- Guildenford, Burford.

West Oxfordshire District Council officers will be removing graffiti and litter, as well as dealing with problems concerning abandoned vehicles, dog fouling and fly-tipping.

Jill Dunsmore, Cabinet member for communities at West Oxfordshire District Council said: "The Community Clear-Ups that recently took place in Witney proved a great success with volunteers from the local estates helping council and police officers to clear litter and remove graffiti.

"Following on from this, the Carterton, Bampton and Burford Clear Ups hope to raise further awareness of neighbourhood environmental crime."

The Carterton Neighbourhood Policing Team and the NAG are promoting the events beforehand by displaying posters and visiting local schools and businesses to recruit volunteers.

Elaine Wernsing, member of the Carterton NAG, said, "We saw the success of the Witney Community Clear-Up days and recognised the need to raise awareness of the same issues in our area too.

"Responsibility for keeping our communities clean and free from rubbish and graffiti doesn't just fall to local authorities but also residents - a joint approach is the best way to tackle it."
