MCLAREN driver Lewis Hamilton will start on pole position for tomorrow's US Grand Prix, after beating team-mate and world champion Fernando Alonso in qualifying.

The 22-year-old Briton clocked a fastest time of one minute 12.331 seconds, 0.169secs at Indianapolis, ahead of Alonso, to claim his second successive pole position.

The best qualifier from the Oxfordshire teams was Heikki Kovalainen, who starts sixth in the Enstone-built ING Renault, ahead of BMW Sauber driver Sebastian Vettel, who is standing in for Robert Kubica.

Medics prevented Kubica from competing this weekend, following his high-speed crash in last weekend's Canadian GP.

The second Renault, driven by Giancarlo Fisichella, starts tenth.

All the places on the grid from 13th to 18th places are filled by cars built in the Oxfordshire area.

Jenson Button qualified 13th in the Brackley-built Honda, ahead of the Grove-built Williams Toyota of Nico Rosberg.

Fifteenth on the grid is Button's team-mate Rubens Barrichello, 16th is the Leafield-built Super Aguri of Anthony Davidson and 17th is the Williams of Alexander Wurz.

Takuma Sato starts 18th in the other Super Aguri.
