MORE than 60 companies have signed up to a new cardboard recycling collection service organised by West Oxfordshire District Council.

Among those getting involved is Witney furniture maker Wesley-Barrell.

Managing director Isabel Barrell said: "We're delighted the council has introduced this cardboard recycling initiative and will support it wholeheartedly."

The council ran a successful pilot scheme for glass, involving 26 pubs and other licensed premises, over the Christmas period.

That is also now to become a regular weekly service with a further 35 businesses signed up, starting on June 23.

The council will review both schemes after a year, but hopes they will become a permanent service and help to reduce the amount of rubbish that is sent to landfill.

The service comes under the umbrella of commercial waste collection supervised by the council's officer John Dowell and businesses are charged on a bulk rate for the service.

Businesses interested in commercial waste recycling should contact the council on 01993 861020 or by email to env.services@westoxon.gov.uk
