The sheer bigotry and intolerance Alan Bourne reveals in his letter (Oxford Mail, May 23), deriding the meeting between Muslims and Unitarians, is rooted in the Dark Ages.
It is estimated by historians that then, when the Church had immense power, no fewer than 25 million people died. Their horrendous deaths were the tragic result of religious intolerance, ignorance and arrogance.
No-one has a monopoly of truth and, whether we are Muslims or Christians, we can all learn from each other. My wife and I have known the Rev Peter Hewis throughout his ministry in Oxford. He is a fine liberal Christian who practises what he preaches.
Dr Taj Hargey, in his addresses at Manchester College Chapel, and to fellow Muslims, eloquently expressed belief in the Oneness of God and His universal compassion.
It is the false leaders who generate hatred and division between faiths. Jesus and Mohammed were both divinely inspired. Thus they advocated love for all humankind and, indeed, towards the whole creation.
