Two exceptional chamber groups, the Lendvai String Trio and the Rhodes Piano Trio, will be collaborating with six other outstanding artists at the Chacombe Music Festival this year. This annual festival, now in its seventh year, is in aid of Sophie's Silver Lining Fund, which helps needy young artists with their training expenses. It was set up by the family of Sophie Large, a gifted music and drama student who died tragically in a road accident at the age of 19.

This year sees the festival expand into new territory, with a week-long artistic residency programme and an increased number of concerts. During the week, the musicians will be working together in a newly restored barn equipped with a fine grand piano. The architect who supervised the work on the barn is so pleased with the results that he intends to submit it to a national competition for sensitive and stylish conservation work on historic buildings.

The festival begins on Friday, June 15, with live music in the George and Dragon pub. The three classical concerts that follow will be staged at the parish church, beginning on Saturday, June 16, at 7pm with Celebration of Youth and Humour, which includes work by Benjamin Britten - Let the florid music praise, The sun shines down, Nocturne and As it is. Joseph Haydn's Trio in C major and work by Schubert follow. After a picnic Interval, the concert continues with Beethoven's Kakadu Variations and Schubert's Piano Quintet in A.

The following day, the Lendvai String Trio will stage an 11am Coffee Concert, which will include work by Sibelius, Haydn and Martinu. In the evening the Lendvai String Trio, the Rhodes Piano Trio will join Judith Wijzenbeek (viola) and Charles Watt (cello) for a concert entitled A Romantic Inspiration, at 7pm, which will include works by Mahler, Arensky, Schumann and Elgar.
