A CYCLIST has died after a crash involving a lorry in Southampton.
South Central Ambulance Service were called to East Park Terrace at 1.57pm yesterday after reports of the collision.
The rider - a man in his 60s - was taken to Southampton General following the crash.
His injuries were described as 'life threatening' and he later died.
A spokesman said an ambulance, rapid response team, ambulance officer and hazardous area response team are all at the scene, as well as the air ambulance.
Police are now appealing for witnesses, in particular anyone who was parked or driving along New Road at around the time the crash happened.
The incident has caused traffic to come to a crawl in the city centre, with East Park Terrace closed.

New Road is also partially closed eastbound, to traffic heading out of the city centre.
The closures are expected to remain in place for the next few hours, including the evening rush hour.
As such, motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible.
The police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit has appealed for witnesses to contact them on 101, quoting Operation Occur.
