Mathew Ledbury's letter, Jumping red lights keeps us safe (Oxford Mail, May 30) suggests that breaking the law by slipping through red lights may be safer for cyclists.
I agree - just the same as when I travel along the Oxford Eastern Bypass far in excess of the unnecessary 50mph speed limit.
The faster I go, the less time I will be on that road and the less chance I have of being hit head-on (again) by a vehicle crossing the centre reservation where there are still no crash barriers.
But I don't think the police, when handing out fixed penalties like confetti, would agree - all they are interested in is money.
