One month after launching an adopt-a-pet section on oxfordmail.net three animals have already found new homes.

Last month, the Oxford Mail and the Blue Cross teamed up in a bid to rehome pets who are being cared for at the animal charity's two Oxfordshire centres at Burford and Lewknor.

We have featured 14 animals on our on-line edition and are delighted to report that Thomas the sheepdog and Castrol and Ducati the cats are now happily settled in with new owners.

Tessa and Tony Powell of Hill Road, Watlington, have rehomed Thomas. The couple have a grown up son and daughter who have left home and a garden big enough to provide a good area for an eight-year-old Old English Sheepdog.

Mrs Powell, pictured, said: "Thomas is amazing. He is wonderful around the house but he is a big dog and will take a bit of training on the lead.

"We lost our old dog in August and wanted to get a new one and as soon as I saw Thomas I knew he was the one for us - he was just so big and beardy.

"You see so many manic barking dogs but Thomas has a lovely calm nature and that impressed me straight away."

Julie Stone, manager of the Lewknor Animal Centre, said: "Thomas is a real character, very strong and full of fun. Mr and Mrs Powell are experienced dog owners used to large, long-haired breeds and have a perfect environment for Thomas.

"They love walking and are prepared to spend time getting to know Thomas and bring out the best in him."

Having been a cat lover all her life, Lindsay Bryant knew that she needed some feline company in her new home.

She and her partner, Chris Sumner, bought a bungalow in Windmill Road, North Leigh, three months ago and started to look for a cat.

But when Miss Bryant, right, saw Castrol and Ducati on our website, she knew that she would have to adopt both. Castrol, 11, is 10-year-old Ducati's mother.

She took delivery of the affectionate pair on May 26.

She said: "My parents always had cats and I really wanted one to make our new home complete.

"But when I read about how friendly they are and then met them I knew that I had to take them - and they came as a package.

"They have settled in quite well and they are very affectionate."
