THE Oxford Times and its sister paper, the Oxford Mail, have won the largest number of nominations in this year's 'newspaper Oscars'.

The shortlist of the Press Gazette Regional Press Awards 2007, unveiled today, features the papers no fewer than eight times - giving us more more nominations than any other newspaper or newspaper website in the UK.

Reporter Giles Sheldrick is nominated in the Specialist Reporter of the Year category.

Katherine MacAlister and Debbie Waite have both been named as nominees for Feature Writer of the Year (daily and Sunday).

Christopher Gray will do battle for the title of Columnist of the Year, while The Oxford Times chief reporter Reg Little is nominated in two categories: the Feature Writer of the Year (weekly) and Sports Journalist of the Year (weekly).

The Oxford Times is a contender for the Weekly Newspaper of the Year (circulation above 20,000) award.

The Oxford Mail's website, oxfordmail.net, which is just over a year old since its revamp, is nominated in the Website of the Year category.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Friday, June 29.
