People of all ages are busy preparing themselves for the annual Headington Festival in Oxford this weekend.

The festival is in its fifth year and everyone involved is hoping it will be better than ever.

And Caroline Duffy, who has been helping co-ordinate the festival on behalf of the Headington Action Group, wants to see a good turnout.

She said: "We are hoping to see plenty of people out for the festival. The feedback that we have each year is that it's such a nice day out for families and people living in the Headington area."

Mrs Duffy also praised Oxford City Council for providing the venue for the festival. She said: "The council has been wonderful in providing us with Bury Knowle Park.

"It's such an asset to Headington and new regulations that have been brought into place for organising events like this were helpful in setting out what needed to be done."

Fellow organiser Sophie Bale, who was brought in to help make the festival more family orientated, is also looking forward to the festival on Sunday.

She said: "It should be good fun with all the different activities taking place. Last year was the first year that we've had prize presentations and we've really tried to build it up this year with the fancy dress prize and the model building prize.

"It's also been really nice to get local businesses involved in the day. In the five years that I've been going to the festival it's become a much bigger event and I think that people have realised that.

"Headington is a nice place to live and it's been nice to have things like this that can bring communities together."

Co-ordinator Mrs Duffy is now keeping her fingers crossed that the weather for the weekend will be better than in recent days.

She said: "I've looked at the weather forecast and it has said there might be light rain, but I don't think people will mind coming out if it's like that.

"The rain has been so heavy recently and it can't be any worse than it was last weekend. My view is, as long as it is not too bad, it will be business as usual."

The Headington Festival will be taking part in Bury Knowle Park on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. For more information go to www.hcda.org.uk
