A teenager whose father died of leukaemia this month wore his dad's old football shirt for two charity matches raising money for treatment of the disease.

Steven Beake captained his youth club football team for a convincing 13-2 win against Henley youth team on Wednesday morning, before losing 7-4 to a youth team from Drayton in the afternoon.

As reported in the Oxford Mail, the 15-year-old organised two matches in one day to raise funds for Leukaemia Research, before his football-mad dad, 47-year-old Richard Beake, died just over a fortnight ago.

He said: "Everyone's been really good about raising money - even some opposition players have got some sponsorship too.

"Playing football for my dad is the one thing he would have wanted me to do."
