County councillor Lesley Legge has been on a mission to prevent more deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Her lobbying of colleagues has succeeded in getting an action plan to make the public more aware of the dangers of the gas.
The former Abingdon mayor and county council chairman worked through the community safety scrutiny committee.
The action plan includes providing up to date advice on the county council website, urging housing associations to fit carbon monoxide alarms and distributing advice to groups such as pensioners and and students.
Mrs Legge said: "Between 30 and 50 people die in the UK every year because gas appliances and flues have not been properly fitted or maintained."
