Eight cars were seized and dozens of fines were issued to motorists by police during a series of stop-checks in Oxford yesterday.
One motorist was given an £80 penalty fine for making obscene gestures with both hands to a police camera during an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) operation in The Slade, Headington.
In just four hours, the ANPR cameras helped capture eight cars which were taken away because the drivers did not have a licence or insurance. One driver was fined £200 for having no road tax.
Sgt Yak Teladia said numerous drivers were also issued £60 fines for driving without a valid MoT certificate.
One person was arrested and charged by police for driving while disqualified, while a 35-year-old man was charged with drink-driving.
