Teenage entrepreneurs will present business ideas to a 'Dragons' Den' style panel in a bid to secure £1,000 start-up grants.

The Oxford-based Angels' Den project involves budding business people, aged between 11 and 18, who have come up with business schemes designed to make enough money to be sustainable and be of social benefit to the community.

On Sunday, the four remaining groups will present their best four projects to the Angels - a panel of three judges who invented the idea.

Each judge will question the proposals before awarding start-up grants to the winning project.

The event, similar to BBC2's hit show Dragons' Den, will be held at St Matthew's Church, Marlborough Road, South Oxford, at 2.30pm.

The Angels putting the entrepreneurs to the test are: Martin Morse, of Kennington Road, Kennington, a director of marketRx in Berkshire; Jonathan Winter, from Botley, director of Oxford-based Career Innovation; and William Peachey, of Lincoln Road, South Oxford, a senior manager for Capgemini.

Mr Morse said: "We want to give young people the opportunity to see if they can make a difference.

"Ideally, we want them to see that business isn't just about making money.

"It can also be about achieving good things for the world.

"It's been really interesting for adults to see that young people can be this creative and reach out in ways that adults can't."

The scheme has attracted the imagination of young people in youth groups at St Matthew's and at St Luke's Church, in Canning Crescent, South Oxford.

Mr Morse added: "Angels' Den has had a great response. Right from the very first meetings, the young people were coming up with all kinds of ideas. They're really switched on to this."

The teams have been mentored by business managers, accountants and charity professions, who have provided advice to help the youngsters' business ideas become reality.

Mr Morse said: "I hope the scheme will be rolled out more widely, and that, if the business schemes are successful, they might generate funds to support more Angels' Den projects."

Everyone is welcome to encourage the entrepreneurs by joining the audience at the event.
