The sound of bells and clashing sticks will shatter the calm of an Oxfordshire village this weekend, when it plays host to 20 teams of traditionally-clad morris dancers.

Dancers from all over England will descend on Kirtlington, near Bicester, between Friday and Sunday, for the annual Lamb Ale Morris Festival.

The festival begins on the Friday evening with folk music and singing in The Oxford Arms.

It continues on Saturday with morris dancing displays around the village. Teams will also perform in Woodstock and at Blenheim Palace.

The highpoint of the festival takes place on Sunday, with a morris parade to the parish church for a musical service.

This will be followed by a dance through the village to Kirtlington Primary School, where there will be displays by Kirtlington Morris and Kirtlington Maids. More details of Kirtlington Morris events at www.kirtlington-morris.org.uk
