A BUILDER was injured after he fell through several floors while working in a city centre shop this morning.
The 53-year-old man, who has not been named, suffered leg injuries after falling through a ceiling and landing in the basement of the building which is currently being refurbished on Oxford High Street at about 9.20am.
Two fire crews and an ambulance were called to the site next door to Starbucks Cafe, which is being renovated into a Northern Rock bank.
It took fire crews about half an hour for the builder to be rescued.
Eye-witnesses describe seeing the man being taken from the basement on a stretcher.
An ambulance spokesman said the man fell several floors and suffered leg injuries but was in a stable condition at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
