Everything is set fair for Wallingford's first Veterans' Day march through the town.

Mayor Betty Atkins and High Steward Sir Colin Imray will take the salute and the Rev David Rice will conduct the short service.

Now all that is needed, says Royal British Legion chairman Frank Hames, is veterans to take part on Wednesday, June 27.

He said: "We are stressing this is not a Remembrance Parade - that takes place as normal in November.

"This Veterans' Day parade is to celebrate those who have served and who are serving their country.

"I am appealing to all veterans to don their medals and march with pride.

"But this does not involve just ex-service people. It is open to everyone who has served in HM Forces and other services such as reserved occupations, Bevan Boys, Home Guard, Land Army, police and fire services, doctors and nurses, transport personnel - anyone who has served the country in time of need.

"The town's Air Training Corps and Army Cadets are taking part, there are vintage army vehicles in the parade, Royal British Legion standard bearers and the standards and marchers from other organisations."

The parade starts in the cattle market at 6.30pm. After the service, there will be refreshments in the Regal Centre, provided by Waitrose.
