PUPILS at a school in Carterton were delighted to receive a visit from the Prime Minister yesterday when he came to officially open their new library.

Witney MP David Cameron visited St John the Evangelist CofE Primary School, in Bluebell Way, to talk to children about the books they were reading. He also cut the ribbon at the new £12,000 library, which was paid for through money raised by the school in just six months.

Mr Cameron spoke to Year 6 pupils Connor Bracey and Sophie Green about the books they were reading in the new library, and they told him about an author they had been studying, and recently met, John Dougherty.

He then donned his reading glasses and sat with a group of children on the floor to read various story books to them, after thanking all staff, governors, parents and pupils for inviting him to the school for the afternoon.
