STARTLED joggers did double-takes when they ran into this bevy of bums on their early-morning workout.

Oxford Mail:

One cheeky chappie whipped out his smartphone and tried to take a snap as the cheerleaders from Oxford Brookes University stripped off for a charity calendar.

Student members of the Brookes Bluebirds usually perform in fancy outfits but downed their pompoms – and undies – for the photoshoot in South Park.

The team hope they can raise cash for charity Para Cheer International, which allows disabled athletes to take part in cheerleading routines, and money for club running costs.

The squad also won a poll by university website The Tab for the best calendar in the country.

Oxford Mail:

Fundraiser Georgia Smith, 20, said it was the first time the club had organised such a shoot.

Cheerleader Bex Morley, 20, added: “Me and Georgia came up with the idea over the summer.

“It was such a liberating thing to do and I hope the club would look to do it again next year.”

The calendar’s cover photo will show the squad admiring Oxford’s skyline from afar, with each month displaying various cheerleading routin-es and stunts.

The calendars are £12 each and will be available from tomorrow. Ten per cent of the cash raised will go to Para Cheer, which aims to make cheerleading inclusive for all abilities.

Miss Smith said organising the 23 cheerleaders for the cover photo was “chaos” but well worth it. “The grass was soggy, it was freezing cold.

“South Park was surprisingly quiet at 7am, though we didn’t go unnoticed.

“A runner with a dog stopped in his tracks, got his smartphone out and starting trying to take pictures. Trying to shoo him away while covering our modesty was unforgettable.”

The final-year student said: “Our expenses have been extremely difficult to manage. We hold pub quizzes and bake sales regularly throughout the year but this is not enough to fully fund our sport.

“Part way through our project we came across an organisation called Para Cheer International and because we feel very strongly about equality in sport we were very keen to donate some of our profits to the charity.”
