HOODED men burst into a Carphone Warehouse today and forced staff into the toilets before stuffing a bag with loot and escaping, police said.

Cordons are in place around the store in Summertown, where police have been carrying out investigations throughout the day.

Thames Valley Police said the incident took place at around 11am today after three men pulled up in a car on Banbury Road.

It said the men entered the shop and demanded entry to the back room and keys to the locked cabinets.

Officers said the offenders then filled a large heavy duty rubble bag with electronic equipment and cash from the till.

They are believed to have taken personal items from staff before telling them to go into the toilets and shutting the door.

Police are still putting together a list of what was taken and do not yet know exactly how much was stolen.

The men, who were wearing dark clothing with hoods pulled up and face coverings, made off in a large dark-coloured saloon type vehicle driving northwards on Banbury Road.

Account director of Carphone Warehouse Kerry Anderson said: "We can confirm that there was a robbery at our Banbury Road, Oxford store this morning.

The police attended the incident, but none of our store colleagues or customers were hurt.”

Senior investigating officer, Det Sgt Kevin Parsons of Force CID based at Oxford Police station, said: “This was a robbery in broad day light in which many people will have been going about their daily business.

"I would urge anyone who might have seen these three men carrying out this robbery, to come forward.

“I would also ask anyone who may have seen a dark-coloured saloon moving possibly at speed prior to and after this incident to come forward.
