THE search is on to find thousands of vintage toy cars to create the new art installation planned for children at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

The ‘Multiple of Stories’ piece will be set up in the children’s radiology department.

It is hoped it will inspire people to share stories about their childhood and adventures with toy cars.

Each vehicle donated will represent a memory or story from the community to form the piece, created by artist Athol Whitmore following an exhibition at the Sarah Wiseman Gallery in Oxford.

Arts adviser for Oxford Children’s Hospital Charity, Ruth Charity, said: “Patients, visitors and staff feel art pieces turn clinical spaces into welcoming places to visit and work.”

The project will now go ahead after the hospital was selected to house the piece and sponsoring confirmed from Bicester Village.

More cars are still needed and there are collection points at the Sarah Wiseman Gallery in South Parade, Oxford, and at Bicester Village visitors centre in Pingle Drive, Bicester.

The art work will be installed at the end of January.
