RESIDENTS have urged developers to rethink where they build “giant warehouses” after plans showed them towering over their homes.

Proposals for 1,500 homes, a school, warehouses and offices on farmland, off Wretchwick Way, Bicester, were unveiled last month.

But two householders who live off Aylesbury Road, are furious because the plans show large storage and distribution warehouses in the south east corner of the estate – directly behind their homes.

James Glaisher, 50, said he was devastated. He said: “We moved here 16 years ago and there wasn’t another building in sight until they built the DHL distribution warehouse, which is the sort of building they are going to be putting in behind us.

“The plan shows that our house will be surrounded by light industry factories and monster sized distribution warehouses.

“This will decimate the value of our property which we are currently in the middle of renovating.

“With these plans in place we cannot even sell up – no one would buy it.”

Mr Glaisher, who works from home in regulatory affairs for medical devices, said large warehouse buildings should go on Graven Hill, which is being developed for housing and business by Cherwell District Council.

He said the householders already had the busy A41 at the front of their homes, and now faced noise, traffic and light pollution from warehouses operating 24/7 at the rear.Neighbour Grub Hubbucks said: “We bought this house on the side of the A41 always knowing that a little further away there was going to be housing built.

“This is not housing, it’s 100ft high warehouses 30ft from my living room.”

He said business units should either be built to the north of the site nearer to Charbridge Lane, or at Graven Hill.

Wildlife campaigner and Bicester CPRE representative John Broad has also raised concerns about the proposed wildlife area.

He said wildlife was being “squeezed off” at either end, which would affect how it travelled across the site and proposed new ponds would impact on natural habitats of species already there.

A spokesman for Wates Developments and Redrow Homes said: “ We are continuing to receive further comments from stakeholders and all these viewpoints and constructive responses are being actively considered by our project team.”
