A SPIDER with a hat, an impossible trombone and a squiggly pig were just some of the creations children came up with at a masterclass with a Guardian cartoonist.
Ros Asquith, who scribbles for the national newspaper, led a workshop at The Beacon hall in Wantage on Tuesday afternoon.
First, she read some of her own published poems from the collection Vanishing Trick.
Then she handed each of the children, including six-year-old Alex Chambers, pictured, a piece of paper with a random squiggly line on it. They were then invited to fill in the shape with whatever image came into their heads inspired by the poems.
Ms Asquith, who lives in London, said: “It is fascinating how different pictures emerge. Some really imaginative things came up and they wrote some fantastic poetry, too.”
The workshop was put on as part of this year’s Wantage (not just) Betjeman Literary Festival.
