IT MAKES my blood boil. Yet again, lack of funds is being used as the reason for urgent road repairs not being carried out.
This time it is Cllr David Nimmo Smith who goes on to say, ‘I am trying to protect the highways budget as much as possible...’(October 12).
Yet this was the same Mr Nimmo Smith who went against all opposition and gave the go ahead to two controversial pedestrian crossings in Abingdon.
Under the Freedom of Information Act, would Mr Nimmo Smith please tell us how much it cost to install one crossing and move the other a few metres along Marcham Road?
When it is proven these crossings have not improved traffic congestion at all, will Mr Nimmo Smith hold his hands up and admit this has been a shameful waste of public money? I think not.
As long as we have people throwing our money around like confetti, on useless projects, there will always be a shortage of funds.
