MOUTH-WATERING cakes were on offer for residents at a Yarnton care home as they held their own charity bake-off.
Staff at Yarnton Residential and Nursing Home held a competition to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, as part of the world’s biggest coffee morning.
Channelling their inner Mary Berry, they went head to head to bake their own culinary creations, which were judged and then sold on Friday.
Resident Joyce Demspey, 89, who was busy baking on the day for the competition, said: “I really enjoyed all the cakes and I’ve always loved to cook. I can put my hand to any dish or cake, so it was lovely to be able to take part in Yarnton’s bake off.”
The home’s activities leader Becca Tudor-Price said: “Everyone enjoyed the competition and it brought back some lovely memories of when they used to bake cakes for their young children.”
Meanwhile in Chesterton, Bradley Pullen, 11, staged his own coffee morning and raised £431 for the Hummingbird cancer support centre in Bicester and £434 for Macmillan.
The national annual coffee morning is the charity’s biggest fundraising event, and raises cash to provide medical and emotional support for people affected by cancer.
