A DRUG addict has been jailed for a spate of burglaries across Oxford.

Alan Goodman admitted five counts of burglary last month relating to homes in Abbey Road, Southmoor Road, Marlborough Road and St John Street between July 18 and August 4 this year.

Oxford Crown Court heard that Goodman had stolen wallets, handbags, phones and laptops from the homes as well as car keys to two BMWs worth nearly £60,000.

However, the 32-year-old denied stealing the cars, and two counts of theft were left to lie on file.

Stuart Matthews, defending, said that Goodman had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and was battling heroine and crack cocaine addiction.

Goodman, of no fixed abode, asked that Judge Ian Pringle take 13 other burglaries and bike thefts in Oxford, Didcot and Banbury, with a total value of £7,000, into consideration when sentencing him.

Jailing Goodman for four-and-a-half years, Judge Pringle said the crimes were very serious because they were committed overnight, and while the occupants were inside.
