Two police officers were injured during the arrest of an escaped prisoner at Oxford railway station.
Shaun Hewitt, 29, jailed for robbery and aggravated vehicle taking, escaped through a toilet window on Wednesday morning at the Churchill Hospital, in Headington, where he was being treated for an undisclosed condition.
He was captured by police at the railway station off Botley Road at about 8pm the same day.
During a struggle, Hewitt is alleged to have bitten one officer and another broke a bone in his hand. Hewitt will now be screened for contagious diseases and the bitten officer's treatment will be based on the results, as is routine in such cases, a police spokesman said.
Hewitt was arrested on suspicion of assault and for escaping from custody.
Oxfordshire's police commander Shaun Morley admitted that Hewitt should have been "more closely supervised", and said the force would learn lessons from the escape.
