TWO STUDENTS have experienced life as a politician after North Oxfordshire’s MP invited them into her office for the week.

Victoria Prentis took on Luca Filippi, 18, from Blessed George Napier School in Banbury, and Will Thompson, 17, from The Warriner School in Bloxham.

The students were put to work in Mrs Prentis’s constituency offices in Upper Heyford and spent a day in Westminster attending hearings with speakers such as Theresa May and George Osbourne.

Luca, who has recently finished his A-Levels, said: “The main reason I applied for this work experience was to gain a deeper insight into British politics, but I finished having also developed many useful office skills, which I know will be of great use in future employment.

“I would definitely encourage all young people to try to arrange work experience with their local MP.”

The pair were also able to listen to a parliamentary debate in the main House of Commons chamber.

Will said: “I really appreciated the more challenging and important nature of the work I was being set, as it meant I could genuinely learn and benefit from it, unlike many work experience opportunities for people my age.”

The Conservative MP plans to welcome more work experience students to her offices.

She said: “I was very impressed with their dedication, and the quality of work they produced.

“I hope to welcome students from across North Oxfordshire to my offices for work experience on a regular basis.”
