York City manager Billy McEwan says he is not looking for any favours from his good friend Jim Smith for the Minstermen's critical final match against Oxford United this Saturday.

It's a game York may have to win to qualify for the play-offs, although a draw will possibly be enough.

But if second-placed Oxford - who have won their last three matches - beat them, there's a very good chance York will miss out.

McEwan worked with Smith at Derby County and the two have remained good friends since.

He said: "I'm not looking for any favours from Jim, that would not be fair on the other teams.

"I'm sure my old gaffer will be trying to put one over me, just as I'll be trying to put one over him."

York, who are coming to the end of their third season in the Conference after losing their Football League place in 2004, could have a near-sell-out 4,500 gate for the match, having twice pulled in 2,900 attendances for recent home games.

When he took over as manager, McEwan stated it was one of his ambitions to fill the ground.

Although there may be a temptation to rest one or two players before the play-offs, Smith has already stressed that none of those that do play will be having a break= at Kit Kat Crescent because there are still places up for grabs.

Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough hopes pressure will play its part and help his side sneak into the play-offs.

The Brewers could claim fifth place if they beat Rushden in their final game and either York or Exeter slip up.

"There is more pressure on York and Exeter," Clough said.

"Don't forget we still have to go and win that last game, but if we can do that it heaps the pressure on at least one of those above us."
