A man who has worked with some of the big names in the music and film industry is involved in one of Oxfordshire's top events of the year.

Terry Jervis will be bringing his expertise, through his company Jervis Entertainment Media (Jem), to provide the spectacle for the Spirit of Adventure at Abingdon airfield over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend on May 26 and 27.

The event's main aim is to promote the image of the RAF, and the Ministry of Defence has teamed up with the company to get the message across by thrilling up to 50,000 people each day with its billing as the "ultimate live action event".

Mr Jervis, a former BBC journalist, has moved on to become a main provider of programming in the entertainment industry.

Some of the big names he has worked with, producing promo-videos and TV specials, include Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elton John and Tim Burton of Batman fame.

Jem is masterminding the central event at the Abingdon spectacular, an interactive 30-minute feature film projected on to huge screens.

It involves an exciting but far-fetched scenario of UFOs, power-hungry billionaires, the Earth under threat, cunning secret military schemes - and, the RAF trying to get to grips with it all.

Terry Jervis has described the show as a "spectacular entertainment experience" and as a "flagship for a series of initiatives to keep defence in the public eye while reinforcing RAF reputation and identity".

The RAF will have a strong presence at the Spirit of Adventure, including both static and air displays involving Tornado, Harrier, Python, Typhoon and Hercules planes, as well as Merlin helicopters from RAF Benson and a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The RAF's crack freefall parachute team - the Falcons from RAF Brize Norton - will also be dropping in.

The organisers have now released further details of what will be available. They include simulators for gliders, fighter aircraft and Boeing 747s, and rally, drag and Naz cars as well as a hot air balloon and snowboarding team.

After Abingdon, Spirit of Adventure will go north for an August Bank Holiday show at Kinross in Scotland.
