Train company First Great Western said services are almost back to normal following a day of disruptions.
Problems started at about 6.30am today when a train broke down between Didcot Parkway and Swindon.
The line was clear by late-morning but major delays continued into the afternoon.
An FGW spokesman said departures from Paddington were now running on time.
