Sir - As a resident of one of the newer controlled residents' parking areas in the city, I have been appalled by the treatment of our pension-aged guests over the holiday period by the behaviour of the parking attendants in our area.
They managed to put a fixed penalty notice on our guests' car at 7.55am, a time when we were all still asleep. As the car was already showing a parking permit for the area, filled in for the two previous days, it must have been obvious that the owners were staying in the neighbourhood.
What a nasty shock it was on going out to fill in the permit for the day, just before 9am, to find the penalty notice already on the windscreen!
This is monstrous behaviour towards our elderly visitors, particularly since we have been told that the permit must be filled in each day and thus cannot be filled in for a block of days. Are we then supposed to stay awake until gone midnight or set the alarm for 6am?
One can only think that these attendants get paid by the number of tickets they issue, to be so unreasonable.
