Sir - We have now had two consultations in the past year on a proposed residents' parking scheme for the North Summertown area.

Both have recorded a majority against proceeding with the scheme. The second consultation produced an even bigger majority against than the first.

However it seems that the county council is determined to go against the wishes of the residents. Their desire to impose an extra unnecessary tax is apparently paramount. No doubt, when house owners go on to pave over their front gardens for parking, there will then be a proposal to tax these spaces as well.

Across the whole of Oxford, residents have also recorded opposition to charges for residents' parking in numerous consultations. They have all been ignored, despite the fact that the parking account is in surplus. Consultations have been brought into contempt. It is time for both the city council and the county council to stop imposing new charges and to start following the majority wishes of their citizens.
