OXFORD racing driver Tim Harvey maintained his early championship lead with a fourth and a second place at the spectacular Rockingham Speedway during rounds three and four of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB over the weekend.

Harvey was racing for Red Line Racing in the race series for identical 400 horsepower, 170mph racing Porsches, which is a key support race to the MSA British Touring Car Championship. His Porsche is backed by Nationwide Crash Repairs, Datapulse and Porsche Centre Solihull.

In the opening race, Harvey battled to fourth place.

He said: "I last raced here in 2002 and I've not been here since, so I don't really know the circuit very well.

"My plan was just to score the best points I can and stay out of trouble. In the first race we were all making mistakes. It's that sort of a track."

In the second race, Harvey was in better shape and chased race winner Steven Kane (Brixworth) to finish runner-up and maintain a seven-point championship lead. "The second race was better, but it was still a bit of a case of damage limitation, so second place was OK."

The Carrera Cup season continues on May 5/6 at the high-speed Thruxton circuit in Hampshire.
