A man who raped and assaulted a woman and treated her as a 'sex slave' has been jailed today.

A jury at Oxford Crown Court found Karl Stoute, 20, guilty of three rapes, two counts of causing actual bodily harm and one of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

Recorder Peter Clarke ordered Stoute to serve an indeterminate sentence of six and a half years.

Stoute, formerly of Brampton Road in Barton, had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of causing actual bodily harm.

During the trial, prosecutor Amjad Malik told the jury that Stoute punched, kicked and stamped on his victim in a bedsit in Barton, Oxford.

Stoute also attacked her with a knife and a sword, locked her in a cupboard, and raped her, Mr Malik added.

Mr Malik said: "He kept her in the form of a sex slave. He punched her and kicked her and moved on to perhaps the most degrading forms of treatment - beyond physical violence - he forced her to lick the lavatory and toilet brush in order to see how much power and control he had over her.

"On a number of occasions Karl Stoute raped her. He had established such a control over her she no longer had any courage or willpower to stand up for herself in any way."

Doctors found bruises to her face, temple, forehead, chin, upper abdomen, both arms and back, Mr Malik told the court.

Mr Malik told the jury after Stoute was arrested he told police officers it was consensual.
